He was inducted into Canada's Aviation Hall of Fame.
In 2001 he became the first Canadian to walk in space and the first astronaut to operate the Canadarm. Across three spaceflights he helped build two space stations, performed two spacewalks, flew Shuttle and Soyuz, and in 2013 commanded the International Space Station for about five months. He later served as NASA's director of operations. His awards include the Order of Canada, the Meritorious Service Cross, and the NASA Exceptional Service Medal.
On the ground he is best known for translating astronaut habits into leadership language: his book An Astronaut's Guide to Life on Earth and TED talk What I Learned from Going Blind in Space (11M+ views) are staples for operators who need calm under pressure. He is also an adjunct professor at the University of Waterloo, an adviser to SpaceX and Virgin Galactic, and Chair of the Board of the Open Lunar Foundation.
Hadfield's live talks are not space tourism — they are practical leadership under uncertainty. SUCCESS readers who run teams, sell under pressure, or rebuild after a miss get a rare, ticketed night with someone who has practiced the worst-case drill for a living and still ships the mission.
