About This Event

The Maison de la Culture d’Arlon presents a 90-minute conference by Philippe Croizon in its Grand Théâtre. On 5 March 1994, Croizon was struck by several 20,000-volt electrical discharges; badly burned, he spent three months in a specialist burns unit, underwent more than a hundred hours of surgery and woke to find all four of his limbs had been amputated. After the initial shock, he set out to prove that life does not stop after such an accident. He became the first quadruple amputee to swim across the English Channel, linked the five continents by swimming between their borders, took part in the Dakar rally, founded a swimming school for people with disabilities, set a world diving record and became a television columnist. In his talks he shares this journey as a moment of exchange, arguing that despite adversity everyone can find the strength to surpass themselves, and that the impossible is only a limit we set for ourselves. The talk is in French.
